In the days before the Eastern bloc, I bought some East German non-fiction, either directly or in East Berlin in Brno or Budapest, they were so incredibly cheap. But they were only useful in excluding "neutral" subjects such as mathematics or statistics, no longer in IT, computer science basics. Sometimes they were even music or Germanic-books used, totally unreadable, however, all historical works, because the clock and everywhere the basic Marxist tendency and SED of loyalty were interwoven.
is so much different it currently does not: not only about the Nazi era, but certainly also for prior periods as the 19th Century is reported from a certain perspective, namely from the standpoint of today's "political correctness". It is not limited to the reports, but provides (almost) always the moral assessment and integrated of loyalty to the modern mainstream with. Did you fear that readers would understand it otherwise incorrect, form their own opinions at all - or they fear the powerful leaders of public opinion? The latter fear I even understand, because who wants to exclude itself from the market itself!
There are notable exceptions, such as Brigitte Hamann, the in such a dangerous topic as "Hitler in Vienna" is really limited to describing the then environment. The Lady has courage!
